WhO THIS IS FOR

This program was built for parents

doing the hard work.

This program was built for parents doing the hard work.

Breakthrough Parenting® is open to all families. And it was specifically designed to hold the

situations that most parenting programs weren't built for ~ the complicated histories, the

complicated systems, the love that's real even when the circumstances aren't simple.

Breakthrough Parenting® is open to all families. And it was specifically designed to hold the situations that most parenting programs weren't built for ~ the complicated histories, the complicated systems, the love that's real even when the circumstances aren't simple.

It is about real caregiving ~ through complicated seasons, with real tools, alongside people who genuinely understand.

Kayla

Parent in recovery

In recovery and learning how to be the parent you want to be. Possibly under the eye of a system that is watching you closely, despite everything you are doing right. You are here before anyone told you to be ~ and that matters.

Travis

Dad rebuilding

You came late to this. Not too late ~ but late. You are trying to build something real with children who don't fully trust you yet, without a template for how to do it right.

Sharon

Grandmother and kinship carer

You are raising grandchildren who are not yours to raise, out of love and out of necessity. You are exhausted in ways most people don't understand. And you are doing something extraordinary.

Dani

Parent in reunification

Your children are back, or coming back, and you are terrified of getting it wrong. You need more than good intentions ~ you need a framework you can actually follow when the guilt or the fear takes over.

Marcus & Lena

Relative caregivers

You said yes when no one else could. You are not quite parents, not quite foster carers. You are the people who showed up ~ and you are figuring out what that means every single day.

You

Any parent doing the work

You don't have to be in a complex family situation to benefit from this program. If you love your child and want better tools than you were given ~ this is for you.

My specialisation

Breakthrough Parenting®

for Complex Family Systems

Most parenting programs were designed for relatively stable family structures. They assume two parents, or one, with a reasonably predictable history. They weren't built for the families I work with most.

My specialisation is Breakthrough Parenting® for Complex Family Systems ~ families navigating addiction and recovery, kinship care arrangements, reunification after separation, blended family structures, and the long aftermath of coercive relationships or family breakdown.

I bring to this work a combination that doesn't exist in most parenting programs: the formal Breakthrough Parenting® certification, specific training in family recovery coaching and kinship caregiving, a trauma-informed and neuroscience-informed foundation, and my own lived experience inside a complex family system.

I know what this costs from the inside. That changes what I can offer.

Families navigating addiction and recovery

Recovery parenting ~ reunification ~ family impact

Understanding what addiction does to children, what recovery parents are uniquely positioned to model, and what children need to feel safe again.

Kinship caregivers

Grandparents ~ aunts/uncles ~ relative carers

The specific complexity of loving a child through the weight of your love for their parent. The grief, the exhaustion, the extraordinary nature of what you said yes to.

Parents in reunification

After time apart ~ rebuilding trust

Why reunification requires a framework that standard parenting programs don't provide. The guilt-permissiveness trap. How trust actually rebuilds.

Court-referred and agency-involved parents

Official documentation available

Official Letters of Completion and Letters of Progress, issued on letterhead as a Certified Breakthrough Parenting® Instructor. Suitable for family court and child welfare submissions.

Why this program ~ why Aimee

Not just any parenting program.

Not just any instructor.

Breakthrough Parenting® has been running for 25 years. It has been used in family court systems, PTAs, hospitals, and agencies across North America. Family court judges in Washington State have specified it by name in court orders. The program works because it is grounded in 25 years of research and real-world application ~ not pop psychology.

What I bring to its delivery is a combination of credentials and lived experience that doesn't exist together in most parenting programs.

The patterns you carry are not who you are. They are what you learned. And what is learned can change.

~ Aimee Martin

Certified Breakthrough Parenting® Instructor

Formally certified by Breakthrough Parenting Academy, Inc. One of a small number of certified instructors in Canada. Authorised to issue official completion letters.

Certified Family Recovery Coach

Specific training in supporting families navigating addiction and recovery ~ including the children in those families who carry the impact long after the crisis.

Grandfamily Leadership Certification

Specific training in kinship caregiving ~ the legal, emotional, and relational pressures of raising children who are not biologically your own.

Certified Brain Coach / Trainer + Hypnotherapist (RTT) + NLP

Understanding how the brain encodes behaviour and what it actually takes for adults to change entrenched patterns ~ not through willpower, but at the level where patterns live.

Trauma-Informed Life Coach + Lived Experience

A trauma-informed foundation that makes the material genuinely accessible to families with complex histories. And the lived experience of navigating a complex family from the inside.

About your instructor

Aimee Martin

I am a Relational Healing Practitioner based in Alberta, Canada, and a Certified Breakthrough Parenting® Instructor ~ one of a small number in Canada authorised to deliver this program and issue official completion letters for courts and agencies.

My specialty is Breakthrough Parenting® for Complex Family Systems. The families I work with most are navigating addiction and recovery, kinship care arrangements, reunification after time apart, and the aftermath of things that happened before they had any say in the matter. I understand what this looks like from both the professional and personal side ~ I am also a grandmother raising grandchildren inside a complex family system.

I did not arrive at this specialisation by accident. My credentials were built deliberately for the population I serve ~ a combination that is not common in parenting education.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before you reach out.

It is about real caregiving ~ through complicated seasons, with real tools, alongside people who genuinely understand.

I was referred by a court or agency. Does that affect the program?

It doesn't change the content at all. A lot of people who arrive through a referral start out feeling like they're here to tick a box ~ and somewhere in the first few sessions, something shifts. They start engaging because it's actually useful, not because someone told them to. That's when the real change begins. The completion letter is available for anyone who needs it ~ issued in my capacity as a Certified Breakthrough Parenting® Instructor.

My child's other parent won't do this with me. Is there any point?

Yes, absolutely. Children respond to the adults who show up differently ~ even if only one adult in their life is doing this work. When you change how you communicate and respond, the child's environment changes. That matters, regardless of what is happening in the other household.

Is this therapy? Do I need to be in therapy first?

This is not therapy ~ it's parent education. It focuses on practical skills and a framework for understanding what's happening in your family right now. Many clients are also working with a therapist, and the two can complement each other well. But you don't need to be in therapy to benefit from this program.

How is the 6-week coaching program different from the 10-week group class?

Both cover the complete curriculum. The group class is instructional ~ I teach, the group discusses, you work through the official workbook. The coaching program is conversational ~ we work through the material as it applies to your specific family, not a generic example. The coaching format goes deeper on whatever is most relevant to your situation, and includes a companion workbook with complex family additions and a 90-day forward plan at the end. Both lead to the same official completion letter.

What does the completion letter say ~ and who accepts it?

The Letter of Completion documents the program name (Breakthrough Parenting®), the number of sessions attended, an assessment of your engagement with the material, and the 15 areas covered ~ written on my letterhead as a Certified Breakthrough Parenting® Instructor. It is suitable for submission to family courts, child welfare agencies, lawyers, and other bodies. I also issue Letters of Progress for interim reporting during the program. If you have specific requirements for the letter's language or format, let me know before we start.

I've tried other parenting programs and they didn't help. Why would this be different?

That's a fair thing to bring. The most common reason parenting programs don't work is that they give people information without helping them change the patterns underneath ~ and pattern change requires a different approach than information delivery. Breakthrough Parenting® focuses on the adult's own patterns and understanding as much as the child's behaviour. That's where lasting change comes from. I'd rather you come to a clarity call sceptical and form your own view than sign up for something you're uncertain about.

Is this available if I'm not in Alberta?

Yes. Both programs are available online to families across Canada. The coaching program is delivered via video call, so your location doesn't matter. In-person delivery is available in Alberta.
